Before using ProQuest Direct for the first time, you may need to configure the following options in your internet browser:

Step 1: Install Adobe Acrobat Reader.

ProQuest Direct provides its full-page image articles in Adobe PDF (Portable Document File) format. To view articles in this format, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you do not have it, you can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free.

Step 2: Set your browser to accept cookies.

Cookies are a general mechanism that allows the server side of a connection (in this case, the UMI ProQuest Direct server) and the client side of the connection (your computer) to maintain information about a particular session. By using cookies, UMI can keep track of your pending article orders and your display and search options for the current ProQuest Direct session.

Cookies are not used by UMI to collect marketing information, or any other online behavior. UMI
uses cookies only to make using its products over the web as convenient as possible.

Netscape Navigator 3.x and 4.x provides an option for alerting you when cookies are used. If this option is checked, you will see an alert dialog when using ProQuest Direct. To prevent the alert dialog from displaying every time cookie information is transferred, you should disable this alert mechanism and allow the UMI server to accept cookies.
