Commercial Streaming Services

Most streaming services, such as Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime, etc. are for personal use and do not allow for screening for educational use.

Netflix does have some films that come with an "educational license," which allows them to be screened in classrooms. To learn more about this see the Netflix's Educational Screenings page.

Another option is to have each student pay for or rent the streaming film. Even if a student doesn't have an account for a streaming platform, many films can be rented for under $5 from platforms like Amazon or Apple TV. To find out where a film or TV show is available, use a site like JustWatch.com, which tells you what platforms have the content for subscription or one-time rental. This is not ideal because it means an additional cost for students, but it can be similar to assigning a textbook, etc. Sometimes, this will be the only option. Please reach out to a librarian to see what other options may be available to you.
