Electric Cars Are Changing The Future: Transforming Transportation, Energy, and Environmental Responsibility
This is a student created research guide for English 102 & Library 201 Learning community. This guide was completed in conjunction with a research paper on the same topic for English 102.
This guide will discuss a few different things about electric vehicles such as what the future would look like with EV adaption, how electric vehicles compare to gas-powered vehicles, environmental impact of electric vehicles.
The widespread adoption of gas-powered vehicles in the twentieth century fundamentally reshaped global travel, and infrastructure development, turning the automobile into both a practical necessity and a powerful symbol of freedom and independence. With that being said gas powered vehicles have their flaws, causing us to look at new ways of reshaping transportation such as electric vehicles.
What kind of impact on the environment do electric vehicles have?
Will electric vehicles last longer than gas powered vehicles?
What all do we need to produce and use electric vehicles?
The adoption of electric vehicles presents a significant ecological opportunity and the potential to improve general infrastructure and economic accessibility. However, EVs are not without flaws, particularly regarding the environmental impact of lithium battery production and disposal. Lithium mining requires excessive water use, leading to contamination and drought, while battery recycling can result in hazardous chemical emissions and fires. Despite these challenges, EVs still offer a lower greenhouse gas emission profile compared to traditional gas and diesel vehicles, which have their own list of environmental consequences. With continued advancements in battery technology, recycling methods, and nationwide charging infrastructure, EVs are becoming increasingly sustainable. Nevertheless, the relatively new innovation of EVs means that long term research is still developing, unlike the more established data available on gas powered vehicles. Both vehicle types have environmental trade-offs, but each remains a viable option for personal transportation in modern society.
The rise of electric vehicles marks a significant shift in the transportation industry, driven by growing concerns over climate change, air pollution, and the environmental impact of fossil fuels. Traditional gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles have contributed heavily to greenhouse gas emissions, promoting a global push for cleaner alternatives. EVs, which run on electricity rather than internal combustion engines, offer a promising solution by producing zero tailpipe emissions and reducing dependence on nonrenewable energy sources. As governments and industries invest in new technologies and infrastructure, electric vehicles are becoming more practical, affordable, and widely adopted, positioning them as a key player in the future of sustainable transportation.
Power grids need to have enough supply of energy to charge electric vehicles while powering everything else, charging stations need to be widely spread out and available all over the place so people who chose to go to electric do not get stranded because lack of charging stations, ecological issues such as using a bunch of resources to make enough products for many people to drive electric vehicles and what will happen the end of a EV's life cycle and what to do with the batteries.
