The focus of this page is to provide OER resources on environmental science, economics, and business ethics topics.

Environmental Science

The following environmental science sources contribute to the learning of environmental science.  They cover environmental science topics and the science behind ecosystems and the larger-scale environment. 

Environmental science covers many aspects concerning climate, different natural cycles, and climate change.  This includes current issues and human contribution to problems in the past and present day.  

The Ecosphere and Environmental Issues | OER Commons

  • Title: The Ecosphere and Environmental Issues
  • This text covers ecology and environmental science in a way that highlights concepts that are related to ecology.  Climate change is a topic throughout this text that the reader of this text will find a lot of information concerning climate change.  Additionally, biodiversity is included as a central theme of the text, and the reader will learn about this theme in detail.  The text informs about different types of cycles in ecology and the importance of energy in ecosystems. 

Environmental Science in the 21st century (merlot.org)

Economics

Economic sources are sources that contribute to one's learning of economics.  These sources relate to economic concepts, such as macroeconomics and microeconomics.  Additional topics in economics address supply and demand, as well as trade.

Macroeconomics: Theory through Applications | OER Commons

  • This text covers economics and, in more detail, the concept of macroeconomics.  The textbook uses real-world examples of how macroeconomics is a part of economics and highlights the role of macroeconomics.  The reader of this text will find real-world examples that they can relate to and understand to gain relevant insight.  The text also covers problems that give readers an additional type of insight.  Additionally, the text provides visuals that allow readers to understand the different aspects of a particular concept through diagrams and tables. 

Microeconomics for Managers | OER Commons

  • This textbook covers microeconomics and how they relate to the concept of economics.  The reader of this text will find the most value in it if they are a potential manager who would like an insight into microeconomics.  The reader of this text is introduced to microeconomics topics relevant to a managerial role, which covers competition, taxes, and the part of the government.  Other issues include utility, supply and demand, and graphs.

  • This text covers how economics is related to management.  One of the text's main points is that economics plays an essential role in management, and this is highlighted throughout the text.  The reader of this text would like to gain an insight into how economics plays a role in managerial decisions.  When reading this text, the reader will look at how managers have to consider economics when making decisions.  The text also goes into detail about consumers and how to meet consumers' demands through economic understanding.

Business Ethics

Ethic sources contribute to one's learning of ethics.  These sources relate to ethical topics and primarily the role of ethics in business.  Ethics in business typically means the practices of a business and determining whether or not they are ethical. Additionally, when studying ethics, there usually are situations in business where one chooses to make an ethical decision or not. 

The resources below address not only business ethics, but the consequences of unethical decisions and how the law applies to unethical business decisions or practices.

  • This text relates to ethics in business and why ethics are essential in business.  The reader of this text will find a new understanding of ethical choices and why they are relevant to a business position.  In addition, the reader will have to ask themselves if they think certain companies are ethical and think about if different companies value ethics.  Throughout the text, the reader will learn about the consequences of choices concerning ethical problems.  Lastly, the text covers the social responsibility of corporations and how ethics relates to the environment. 

Business Ethics for Managers (merlot.org)

  • Title: Business Ethics for Managers
  • This text consists of information related to business ethics for managers.  The text covers practices that are considered unethical and the associated negative impacts of the unethical practices.  The reader of this text would be someone who wants to avoid unethical practices or at least someone who would like to understand what unethical means in business for managers.  One of the main themes of this textbook is monitoring standards and the different sub-topics of this concept.  Additionally, the text covers stakeholder issues and improves their ethical management skills.

  • This text connects the idea of legality and ethics in a way that is related to business.  The reader of this text is someone who wants more information about how law correlates with business.  The reader will also find out how the law impacts different decisions that ethics play a role.  Additionally, the text gives ideas to businesses on how they can incorporate more ethics.  The reader of this text will primarily be interested in learning the legal results of unethical decisions.  The text explains how companies can be more ethical, such as anonymous reporting that has the potential to be investigated.  This text's relevancy to legality and ethics provides essential information to someone who is already involved in business or wants to be involved in the business.
