The Benefits of Artificial Intelligence in Education

This guide presents information and resources on the benefits of AI in education. 

This guide examines benefits of using artificial intelligence to educational institutions, educators, and students. It will provide resources and research for educational environments, educators, and students to explore and utilize. 

Focused Thesis

The research thesis of this guide is to explore the benefits of using AI in an ethical manner. By examining the benefits to schools, educators, and  students, the guide explores data, research, and provides resources and tools for educational institutions and teachers to rely on when implementing the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.   

Research Questions

• How do educational institutions begin integrating AI in the educational environment?
• What are the benefits to instructors using AI in the classroom?
• How do students benefit from using AI in the classroom? 
• What are the negative impacts of using AI in an institution?
• What are some resources to help educational institutions set ethical standards for AI?
• What are some resources to help teachers integrate and utilize AI in the classroom?

• Are there different ways students and educators use AI in the educational environment?

AI in education is a new technology that high school and college students are actively learning about and engaging in.  AI will soon be a part of daily life in society and a requirement for future employment. While the transition to using AI in daily life can be a difficult one, there are many resources and tools to help schools, educators, and students implement AI in the classroom.

One concern educators have involving AI is that students could become dependent on this technology and lose some of their creativity. AI may change the way society needs the teachers. 

This guide investigates the question: What are the benefits of AI in education at schools, for teachers and for students? By analyzing trending videos, articles, case studies, educational papers and blogs, the research examines the benefits to education of implementing different methodologies of artificial intelligence. 

The general trend of research into AI and education is positive. There are many of benefits for institutions, teachers, and students. Institutions that keep up with technological advancements will continue to recruit and prepare students for their future in society. Educators that embrace the use of this technology will find a partner that can aide in some of the trivial tasks, like class lists, attendance and generating creative prompts. Students will find there are different methods of utilizing AI, from running reports and getting a forecast, to tutoring, it can be an ally in learning. There are many resources offering tips and advice when getting started and implementing AI. Overall the implementation of AI in education is not an if, but is already beginning. 

Society is changing! AI is expected to impact the workforce and many careers (including teaching). This trend will require AI experience to find employment. Educational institutions will need to begin implementing teaching and using AI, so students are prepared to enter the workforce. More research is continually occurring, and will continue as AI progresses. Research into AIED (Artificial Intelligence in Education) is continually expanding and generating new technology daily. Hopefully. this research will help persuade teachers to be open minded and partner with AI, versus excluding AI in the classroom. 

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly advancing. As it grows in use in society, educational institutions are racing to ensure it is used ethically, thus preparing students for future careers. Educators are learning about the benefits of how to implement this new technology in the classroom. AI can assist teachers with both administrative tasks and teaching skills. As teachers become better able to integrate AI in the classroom, they will also become better at teaching students how to use AI ethically.  As society embraces AI, more jobs and career paths will require AI experience. Schools, educators and students must begin to integrate this technology into their daily lives, to prepare for advancements in society.

In this video there are two teachers are discussing their views on AI in the classroom. Originally, they were worried that they were going to be replaced by AI, but have since embraced AI in the classroom. They are sharing ways they use AI to make their work with students more meaningful.  

Reasoning for using this video:

This video provides an in-depth conversation about the teachers perspective of benefits of using AI. One teacher shares how she is partnering with AI. In her example, she has taught her students to prompt AI so they can use it as tutor and get feedback on their writing. She worries that they may become over-reliant and that they will no longer read deeply if they use this tool too much. She wants them to use it as a learning partner to help with creativity and feedback, versus do the work for them.  Another teacher shares the example of students using AI to get an answer, and he is teaching his students to share their work with the AI and ask, "Why did I get this answer incorrect?" In this way he feels like students will learn and use AI as an ally versus using it and not gaining knowledge.
