Interlibrary Loan
If you are unable to locate the resources that you need in the SVC Library catalog, we will do our best to locate those materials in other libraries and borrow them through our Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL). These services are available to SVC faculty, students, and staff.
To request an ILL first check the SVC Library catalog. Then, be sure you can provide the following:
- Title
- Author(s), Editor(s)
- Publication date or edition
- Other specific or pertinent information
To place a request:
- Contact the reference desk at either Norwood Cole Library (Mount Vernon Campus) or Whidbey Island Campus Library, or email mv.library@skagit.edu
- Students: May have up to three Interlibrary Loan Requests at one time and no more than six per quarter without approval from a librarian.
- Employees: No charge, however, if an employee exceeds 10 requests in a quarter, the employee’s department may be billed for borrowing costs (if there is a cost for an ILL, it is typically $15-50). Library faculty will discuss charges with the employee prior to creating the ILL. Employees may be charged for late, damaged, or non-returned items.
For borrowing libraries:
- We reccommend that libraries making requests to borrow from SVC Libraries use the OCLC FirstSearch ILL subsystem. Any institution that does not use OCLC for its online requesting should contact SVC reference services.
Other users:
- Individuals from outside of the Skagit Valley College service area (Skagit, Island, and San Juan Counties) interested in borrowing materials from SVC Libraries should contact their local library to initiate an Interlibrary Loan request.
The following items are not circulated for Interlibrary Loan requests:
- Reference
- Periodicals
- Reserves
- Microforms
- Archives
- eBooks/eJournals
- Musical Scores
