Library materials that can be checked out to SVC students and staff:

  • Equipment such as laptops, calculators, headphones, and chargers.
  • Books, including course textbooks, non-fiction, and fiction books.
  • Multimedia resources.

To check something out:

  • Bring your items and SVC Student ID card to the library circulation desk.
    • To obtain a Student ID card at MV campus go to Lewis Hall, and at Whidbey campus, go to the library.
  • CTClink numbers may be suitable for check-out in some cases.

Getting books from other SVC Campus Libraries:

  • Circulating materials from either the Mount Vernon or Whidbey Campus Libraries of Skagit Valley College can be borrowed at either campus. They will be transported via the campus courier.
  • Requests can be made by logging into your library account or ask at the circulation desk.

Renew library materials:

  • Online: Log in to your library account and if items are renewable, select the renew option.
  • In person: Bring items to the front desk at either campus library during open hours.
  • Email: library.circulation@skagit.edu.
  • Call: 360.416.7837 (MVC) / 360.378.5322 (WIC).
  • Items that have been requested by other patrons cannot be renewed.
  • Laptops and most technology are not renewable.

Off campus access to library materials:

  • Use your student log-in (same as you use for accessing Canvas or SVC email) for remote (off-campus) access to electronic resources, such as our Databases and eBooks.

Overdue Materials

  • Patrons are responsible for all replacement costs of items not returned or damaged.  Do not check materials out for anyone other than yourself.
  • Students will receive a series of overdue/replacement cost notifications via their college email account.  Community borrowers receive notices via the email address that was given during sign up.
  • Check your library account to determine the status of your loans, to renew materials, or to see if there are any overdue or lost item replacement fees associated with your account. 

Damaged or Lost Items

  • If your items are damaged or lost, you may be unable to check out additional library materials until they are replaced or returned.
  • All replacement fees are paid at the cashier’s office. 
  • If you have any questions about your library account, please speak with a library staff member.  We are happy to help clarify any questions you may have.

Lost Cards

  • As the card holder of record, you are responsible for all materials borrowed using your card. Do not loan your card to anyone else.
  • If your card is lost, please notify the library immediately by calling 360.416.7837 (MVC) or 360.378.5322 (WIC) so usage can be blocked.

Who We Serve

  • SVC students, employees, and emeriti.
  • Community Borrowers.
    • Guest Users can log in to the computer for a maximum of five times per quarter. (See Policies page for details)
    • Community Borrowers are residents of College District #4, which includes Island, Skagit and San Juan Counties who are 16 years or older. Cards cost $10.00/quarter or $40.00/year. (See Policies page for details)
  • Reciprocal Borrowers.
    • We extend library borrowing privileges to current registered students and faculty of Western Washington University, NW Indian College, and all Washington State Community and Technical Colleges in accordance with a reciprocal agreement between the schools. Ask to fill out an application at the library front desk for access to on-campus resources.
  • Other libraries may borrow via OCLC WorldShare Interlibrary Loan.
