This 4-minute video provides an overview of how to find and embed streaming videos from SVC's streaming video services.
In general, showing films and videos in the face-to-face classroom is permitted under copyright law if students are physically present and the film is legally obtained and serves a pedagogical purpose.
Instructors can play streaming media from SVC Library streaming media collections in a face-to-face class. It is recommended that instructors link videos from library collections within the syllabus or Canvas so that students can access them on their own if needed.
Instructors can play physical format video such as DVS or VHS from their own or the SVC Library's DVD collection in a face-to-face classroom.
The copyright exemptions for showing film and video in the face-to-face classroom do not apply to online classes. It is recommended that instructors link to videos from library collections in Canvas and have students watch films or videos on their own time. Note that they will have to authenticate with their full SVC email address and password.
