Libby Recommends: Washington author, Jess Walter, has done it again. Walter is a former journalist and award-winning author who lives in Spokane. His most recent work of fiction is a hilarious and brilliantly provocative adventure through life in modern America, about a reclusive journalist forced, post-Pandemic, back into the world to rescue his kidnapped grandchildren. Find it at the Library!
Elena Recommends: As relevant now as it was when it was first written, maybe more so, in The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, astronomer Carl Sagan explores why humans are so prone to believing hoaxes, pseudoscience, and snake oil. His famous chapter on using your "baloney detection kit" walks his readers through how to identify and counter logical fallacies and other faulty thinking. A must read for anyone living in this moment in time where critical thinking and scientific reasoning are under attack. Find it at the library!
